The SPAD XIII
The SPAD XIII was a venerable World War I Allied fighter. The SPAD XIII was fast and powerful but difficult to fly. It was equipped with twin machine guns and a 220 hp Hispano-Suiza engine. Some 8,472 SPAD XIII's were built during the war.
The SPAD XIII was flown by pilots of the United States Army Air Service including America's leading ace, Eddie Rickenbacker (26 confirmed victories), and Frank Luke (18 victories). Many other famous WWI aces flew the SPAD XIII including Georges Guynemer, Rene Fonck and Italian ace Francesco Baracca. Irish ace William Kennedy-Cochran-Patrick scored more victories with the SPAD VII and SPAD XIII than any other ace.
